Use the password administration to allocate access passwords to certain menu functions. At present, the password administration is located in the "Configurations Console". Its parameters are in the Configurations Console below the "[Passwords]" line. See also cicon2 Opening the configuration file.

Click to expand or collaps information.  Description of password administration

First, you need to define the passwords you wish to use.

A total of six different passwords can be defined.

Hinweis

To activate the password function, at leas the "Master" master password must be defined.

This is the administrator's password, automatically allocated to each menu function and the only one that is allocated to the "Open Configuration" button in the cicon2 Operator Menu . Access to the configuration level is only provided via this password.

Passwords 1-5 can be freely defined and allocated to individual menu functions. You may use any characters, numbers and specian characters, but a password is limited to 50 characters. We strongly recommend you use all of these to make any unauthorised access to protected areas more difficult. Also, please avoid any combinations that bear a relation to the action and / or a date, such as E"adm43Login", "Rem23Pw" - these are combinations that hackers would typically try out.

Hinweis

Although it is possible to enter more passwords, these will not be recognised as valid by the system.

Please bear in mind that inofficial entries may result in random behaviour by the Remote software. See also cicon2 Thin Client configuration file.

Hinweis

If you have entered a password with more than 50 characters, an error message will pop up when you are saving the configuration file, pointing out that the password function could not be initialised.

This prevents the system from permanently rejecting passwords because the user has entered more than 50 characters.

Via the menu functions you can allocate passwords to these. The master password does not have to be explicitly allocated to a menu function, as it entitles to access to all menu functions. If you do not wish to allocate a password to a menu function, simply leave this entry blank (e.g. "OSDAccess= " free access to the operator menu.)

Menu function:

Description:

OSDAccess

Access function to the cicon2 Operator Menu. Is requested when the "F8" function key is pressed.

Sub-functions of the operator menu:

TouchCalibrationAccess

Access function to the touch calibration. Is requested when clicking on the

cicon2 Calibrate Touch Screen" menu function.

ConnectionSelectAccess

Access function to the data connections. Is requested when clicking on the

cicon2 Select Connection menu function or when an cicon2 OSD hotkey" is entered.

TouchRightClickAccess

Access function for the right click function. Is requested when clicking on the

cicon2 Activate Touch Rightclick or the "Deactivate Touch Rightclick" menu function.

LockOperatorInput

Access function for locking operator input. Is requested when clicking on the

cicon2 Lock Operator Input or "Unlock Operator Input" menu function.

ActivateStationsAccess

Only with cicon2 NetC@p connection.

Hinweis

If passwords for sub-functions should also apply for access to the "Operator Menu" you need to allocate these explicitly to the OSDAccess menu function or not allocate a password to the "OSDAccess" menu function.

Otherwise you have to first open the operator menu using the password allocated to the operator menu and then access each sub-function with the corresponding password allocated to it.

Direct login to the operator menu by means of all defined passwords:

ConfgConMnuFnct_1

ConfgConMnuFnct_2

ConfgConMnuFnct_3

Login validity:

You can limit the validity of a password to a certain time (1-24 hours). This ensures that the login ceases to be valid after the specified time if no action relating to the login was carried out during that time. The parameter for this is located in the configuration file.PwCnfg_TimeOut.

If you want to place a time limit on the login, enter a whole number between 1 and 24.

A value = 0 equals no time limit on the login.

Hinweis

Menu functions without allocated password are not subject to a time limit.

Re-establishment of connections:

Use the PwCnfg_ConButton parameter to re-establish a previously selected connection without having to re-enter the password. See login password.

With 1, a connection can be re-established without a new login even if access has been barred in the meantime (e.g. login validity has expired).

0 means that the user has to carry out a valid login before re-connecting.

Hinweis

This parameter means that when logging in to the "Operator Menu" or when clicking on the "F3 = Select Connection" button another button is displayed by means of which a selected connection can be re-established. See login password.

Login_AndConnectButton

Use the "F1 = Connect" button to re-establish a selected connection without having the corresponding access authority.

Once the user has entered a password, access to the associated menu function will be granted.

If you enter an incorrect password the following message appears:

Msg_LoginDenied

There is an indirect connection of passwords to users. Depending on which user is accorded which authority, one or several of the defined passwords are allocated accordingly.

Hinweis

If the keyboard language is changed after password entry and if at least

one password contains characters that are not directly available with this keyboard layout, the password administration will be de-activated.

This will be indicated by a message. This prevents the system from permanently rejecting passwords because the user enters incorrect characters due to the layout change.
