A pointer graph is used to present the value of a variable as pointer which can be modified, i.e. the position of the pointer varies proportionally to the variable value. This presentation is always used, when, apart from the exact value, a quantitative presentation of the process value is also required and useful and when the distance to the limit values is to be presented.


There are two ways available to create image objects.


Tools toolbar:



Click on the symbol for a pointer graph in the cicon2 Tools toolbar.


The mouse pointer changes to the selected symbol. cursor_bar_object


Position the object on the image.
Press and hold down the left mouse button and drag a field having the requested object size.
In the image, the field is marked with a frame and editing handles for modifying its size.





modifies the width of the selected object


modifies the height of the selected object


modifies the height and width of the selected object


Release the left mouse button again.
The dialogue including the field properties for the pointer graph is displayed.





Description of properties:




Actual value

A pointer graph can only be used as actual value.


Name which can be selected freely for the pointer graph.

A created pointer graph can be used several times with the same properties, since the different displayed values are determined via the analog variable.


Pointer graph properties

Specifies the type, alignment, and scaling.


Arbitrary comment for information purposes.

Information regarding the field can be entered in the comment field. Comments are used for explanation purposes in SPSPlusWIN.




The value predefined for a  pointer graph may only be a value of the analog variable type.


Variable properties

Creates a new variable und / or defines the parameters.


Use this field to select or create the variable specifying the value for the pointer graph.

The value of this variable is shown via the pointer graph. When using the multiplexing function, this variable does not influence the pointer graph.

Process connection

Information on the programmed process connection

The displayed process connection provides information on the address used by the analog variable.
