Version 5.0 of the "RemoteHMI Menu" for the Thin Clients series 5x6, 5x7 and 5x8 controls all configuration data directly via the menu.


The following features were implemented with Version 5.0:

Automatic scaling of the menu to fit the screen size (always the same size action fields)

Support of several Ethernet interfaces

Simultaneous connection of Thin Client with several Remote PCs -> fast change of displayed Remote PC

Active monitoring of status of established connection

Support of several screens of the  Remote PC

Display in portrait mode

3-level access management for action fields (buttons) of the "RemoteHMI Menu"

Installation of applications (apps)


Other features adopted from Version 4.0 include:

Establishing of RDP and / or VNC connections

Touch calibration of the Thin Client

Activation of right mouse-click for the touch (simulation of the right mouse key)

Touchscreen lock for cleaning purposes

Screen brightness adjustment

6.3.1 Connection principle:


For devices of series 5x8




6.3.2 Display via VNC:


As a standard, the video output of the server is displayed in full at the maximum possible size whilst maintaining the correct aspect ratio. Non-native resolutions may result in black horizontal or vertical margins.

Server resolutions (much) greater than the native Thin Client display resolution will also be fully displayed, but small structures will be the harder to recognise, the greater the difference to the native Thin Client resolution.



6.3.3 Display via RDP:


As a default, the connected server always starts a session with the native resolution of the Thin Client.



6.3.4 RemoteHMI Menu:


The "RemoteHMI Menu" is located on the right hand side of the Thin Client.

You can open and close it by pressing F(unction key) 8.

6.3.5 Extended Menu:


The RemoteHMI menu contains the following registers and buttons.











1)Button to minimize detailed view of the "Address Book" register

2)Change to "Dashboard" register

3)Change to "Address Book" register (the one currently shown)

4)Changes to "Applications" register

5)Chnages to "Network" register

6)Changes to "Settings" register

7)Button for closing the RemoteHMI menu



6.3.6 Status line (fields):


Status field



Field showing user status. This is where the current user level is shown.

Three user levels are currently available: operator, engineer and admin.


First Ethernet interface with "connected" status.

There is an exchange of Ethernet frames.

This is an Ethernet connection

and can be used to set up a Remote connection,

provided the Remote PC has an active server for the connection that is to be established (VNC RDP).


Second Ethernet interface with "not connected" status

No Ethernet connection could be established. The physical (OSI layer 1) or the Ethernet protocol level (OSI layer 2) cannot be established.

The connection cannot be used to establish a Remote connection.

All Remote connections that require this connection cannot be established.

6.3.7 Installation of the factory software:


If you need to re-install the factory software, proceed as follows:


In safe area:


Switch off the device.

If required, open the back cover.

Stick the USB stick with the factory software into the X4 USB socket  (5x6 u. 5x8 only) or into the socket of the VB-USB-Plug cable.

Switch on the device.

The factory software will now be installed automatically.


In hazardous area  (xT-xx6 Series only):


Switch off the device.

Stick the intrinsically safe USBi stick with the factory software into the socket of the VB-USB-Plug cable which may be located on the outside of the device.

Switch on the device.

The factory software will now be installed automatically.



Once the installation has been completed, switch the device back off.



Please remove the USB stick before restarting the device, since otherwise the device would expect an installation of the factory software when being re-booted.
